MCh in Urology, Andrology Fellowship (Singapore General Hospital)
I am Dr. Vijay Ganapathy, a native of the French city of Pondicherry. After a memorable schooling in Petit Seminaire High School, I went on to study Medicine, giving life to my wings-of-flight, in Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, Pondicherry University.
I furthered my education with a Master’s in surgery in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, India. I was beginning to fly, like a little bird that took the first jump from a cliff. Of course, the wings which were prepared for years made sure it gave the best experience and I passed out as the topper with a gold medal.
When flying became a routine, the next desire was to take on distances and heights. I completed the Urological Residency MCh in Institute of Nephrourology, Bengaluru, a dedicated center for nephrology and urology (performing around 500-600 urological surgeries every month) and center of excellence in Laparoscopic and Renal Transplant. I went on to completing the Andrology Fellowship sub-specialization in Singapore General Hospital and NUHS, Singapore.
The journey paved way for my research in Urodynamics, the Study of Urinary Dynamics, and I was honored with the Urogynaecology Fellowship from the International Continence Society (ICS 2017), Florence, Italy. This is a significant milestone as it brought me an opportunity to present my study on an international forum. This time the flight was granted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)’s travel grant.
I also went on to present my novel work on T. Pregabalin’s efficacy in stent removal, a study I put forth before the World Congress of Endourology held in Paris, 2018.
During my career, I have contributed significantly to research in urology and andrology, with a specific focus on urinary dynamics, minimally invasive techniques, and male reproductive health. I was awarded the Urogynaecology Fellowship in 2017 by the International Continence Society (ICS) in Florence, Italy.
I also presented a pioneering study on the efficacy of T. Pregabalin in stent removal at the World Congress of Endourology in Paris (2018). This study aims to improve patient care by reducing pain and complications during the stent removal process.
As a researcher, I am driven to innovate and bring forward cutting-edge solutions to improve the quality of care for my patients.
Today, as a practicing urologist, my field of interest and care is Minimal Invasive Management for stone diseases, in terms of scarless/keyhole surgery, as well as vascular access for kidney failure patients. I focus on providing the most advanced and least invasive treatment options available for my patients.
Additionally, I have a deep passion for creating awareness about Men's Health Management, a field that is still often misunderstood and underappreciated in many parts of the world. Through my work, I aim to break the taboo surrounding men's health, encouraging men to prioritize their well-being.
My mission is to empower men to take charge of their health and well-being by providing education, personalized care, and innovative treatments. If health is wealth, then awareness is the means to it.
